NURTURE appeals for egg donors
Many couples suffer infertility because the female is unable to produce healthy eggs. This could be due to a number of reasons including chemotherapy, genetic disorders or early menopause. The distress faced by the couple is intensified by the national shortage of egg donors. NURTURE's waiting list is currently around two years, although we are actively seeking special individuals who would donate their eggs to give others the chance of the family they desperately want.
Egg donors fall into two categories. Those who do it altruistically, for the pure satisfaction of knowing they have helped someone achieve their dream or egg share donors who require IVF treatment themselves. Egg share donors can receive free IVF and discounted drugs if they share their eggs with another couple. Both sorts of donors will undergo the same screening procedure and will need to fall within the necessary criteria (further information on the criteria can be found on the fact sheets below).
Before any treatment commences, the donor has a full understanding of what is involved and has the ability to withdraw from the treatment at any stage up to the actual collection of eggs. Donors will be asked to see our independent counsellor to discuss the implications of donating. This appointment is not for us to assess your suitability for donating, it is simply intended to give you an opportunity to discuss your feelings about the treatment to an impartial person.
Whatever your reasons for wanting to donate eggs there are hundreds of couples that would be eternally grateful for such a precious gift. If you would like to find out more information about donating, either altruistically or as part of the egg share programme, please download the fact sheets below.
